Middle Ear Inflammations (Acute and Chronic)

Middle ear infections are a type of ear disease that affects the middle ear cavity, usually as a result of infections. It is most common in children, but can also occur in adults. Middle ear infections are usually caused by upper respiratory tract infections and develop when germs from the nose and throat reach the middle ear through the ear tubes.

Middle ear infections are characterized by symptoms such as pain in the ear, hearing loss, a feeling of fullness in the ear, fever and sometimes discharge from the ear. Treatment is usually done using antibiotics, painkillers and other medicines to relieve symptoms. In some cases, recurrent or chronic cases, surgical interventions such as the insertion of an ear tube may be necessary.

Middle ear infections can usually be cured with early diagnosis and appropriate treatment. However, if left untreated or in recurrent cases, it can lead to complications, so it is important to consult an otolaryngologist.
